Lindsay Rand was born in New York in 1916. In Rye his family lived at 410 Boston Post Rd. Lindsay enlisted and served in the American Red Cross during World War II.

MR. AND MRS. EDWARD S. RAND, of Rye, N.Y have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Josephine Lindsey Rand, to Capt. Hugh Allen MacMUlan, Jr., MC, AUS, son of Mrs. Ellen Bowling Mac-Millan, of Catonsville, and Doctor Hugh A. MacMUlan, of Long Beach. CaL' The wedding will take place this summer. Miss Rand attended Rye Country Day School. Garrison Forest School, and Pine Manor Junior College. She is a sister of Mrs. Charles Lee Austin, of Pittsburgh, and a twin sister of Mrs. Franklin B. Whitbeck, of Rye. She has been serving with a Red Cross clubmobile unit In England, France and Germany for a year. - . Captain MacMillan is an alumnus of Philip's Exeter Academy, Princeton University and Harvard Medical School and Roosevelt Hospital Surgery. As a member of the Roosevelt Hospital Unit he went overseas in September, 1942. He was transferred to the Second Auxiliary Surgical Group and served in Africa, Sicily. Italy, France, Germany and Austria.

HUGH DIED Sept. 14, 1994. He prepared at Phillips Exeter. At Princeton, he majored in biology and was a member of Tiger Inn. He was voted by our class as best all-around athlete. He played football all four years, on our great freshman and varsity squads, which lost only one game in his junior year. He also played four years of basketball and was captain his senior year. In 1940, he got his M.D. from Harvard. During WWII, Hugh served three years as a surgeon in the Army Medical Corps in England, Africa, Italy, France, and Austria. He retired as a major. He was awarded the Bronze Star and seven battle stars. He helped found the Colorado Outward Bound School and served 30 years on its board. He had lived in Denver since 1948, and volunteered for many community activities and was highly regarded as an excellent surgeon. He was a former president of the Colorado chapter of the American College of Surgery. Hugh is survived by his widow, Lindsay Rand MacMillan, a noted painter, whom he married in Paris in 1945; daughters Lindsay MacMillan and Mrs. Edward McMillan; a son Hugh A. III; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by son Edward Rand '76, who died in 1993. This talented and loyal Princetonian will indeed be missed.
